The Hook Fell Out

“We got limits of yellowfin, some big yellowtail at Cedros Island and a couple dozen wahoo,” said Brian. “The Ridge was very good, and the 13 Spot good for school yellowtail.”
K. C. Brotherton of Burbank won first place for a 103-pound yellowtail he caught off Punta Toska on a sardine and a ringed 6/0 Super Mutu hook. He said he used 80-pound Big Game line, 130-pound Izorline Spectra, and Avet 30 and a Calstar 6465 XH rod.
“I just got luck,” said Brotherton. “He came in after just ten minutes. He was barely hooked, in the skin of the lip. The hook fell out when he hit the deck.”
Furmin Diaz of Pomona won second place for an 88. 5-pound yellowfin. Henry Ross of San Diego took third place for a 48-pound wahoo that chomped on his home-made gold bomb made from a ten-ounce sinker. Ed Yamada of Torrance and Dale Monday of Denair stood in with the winners holding a 43.4-pound yellowtail and a 44.4-pound dorado.
“We had a great ten-day trip for variety,” said skipper Kiyohara, “and the big fish are there right now, on the southern banks.”
