Drove to Long Beach this morning and met Po in the parking lot at 6:30. Minus tide, not a breath of wind and barely a ripple on the water. Also, no trash on the beach, very little in the water which was a dirty green instead of the ugly brown.

We were both using 3" BH Bay Smelt on a 3/8 darter head. First cast and Po hooks up almost immediately and I'm on a few seconds later...twin foot long hali's. We've never had dual hookups at this beach before but it happened at least half a dozen times in the next hour and a half. Time flies by when your catching fish and before I knew it, it was 8:00 and time to either go home or feed the meter (parking is free until 8 a.m.) We were both in double figures on the hali's with a few sandbass thrown in and the birds were still working the area...so 4 quarters in the meter and back at it for another hour.

When the meter ran out we left them biting. Most of the hali's were the foot long models with two or three in the 19-20" range for each of us. I had a few smaller sandies and some respectable lost YFC.

Totals for the morning...

WP
19 Hali
3 Sandbass
2 YFC
1 WSB

Po
26 Hali
1 Sandbass

WP

WP,

I noticed you seem to be moving away from KMs currently. Did you find a better replacement?

Not at all. KM's are still pretty much all I use in the surf, but I've tried different things in the bays and jettys and find that the plastic seems to work real well for me.

If I find the same conditions this morning that were there yesterday I'll throw a 3/8 KM and try to get some bigger fish.

 I didn't get to watch the Fishing Ventures surf-fishing footage, however, your fans told me they noticed the KM catching the fishies. Even tho Mr. Kovach was promoting his sponsors plastic baits....

Your expertise was being admired by the "Princess Fan Club" members....
